Does my car qualify? What's a POS?In order to qualify for the trip, your car must be something special and/or unusual. Souped up versions of regular saloons will not usually qualify, but most two-seater convertibles will. So far in addition to the three confirmed cars a Mazda MX-5, an Audi S5 and an Audi TT have all been accepted. The final say on what can and can't go is with the confirmed participants. Basically, we vote. If most of the other participants like it, it's not a POS. What if I don't have a sports car?Well, you could get one and sell it after. OK - might sound a bit far-fetched but it's not so daft. A used MX-5 doesn't depreciate much. And it's possible to buy short-term insurance. Another option may be to come along with someone else - sometimes, it's not easy to find a co-driver, so you just might find one of the other teams will be happy for you to join them, if you'll split fuel and/or accommodation costs. It's just some friends going on a road trip together. Can anyone come along?Pretty much, yes. We do ask that you have a decent car (see first question), you don't smell and the rest of the group like you. Oh and we're limiting places to just 10 cars, so get in quick. However, this isn't a commercial enterprise - it's just some friends going away together. You're absolutely responsible for yourself. If your wheels fall off, don't come running to us! (That said, you should have a CB radio and the "spirit of the trip" will kick in.) What sort of CB do I need? You need one with the European channels - the older UK models aren't legal on the continent. Nearer the time, we'll post some private pages on how to prep your car for the adventure. Where are you going?See here for a summary of the places we'd like to visit. How much will it cost? That depends on where you stay. You're expected to book hotels and ferries yourself . We'll discuss where we're staying on the forum and there will be a designated pub/restaurant for each stopover - but it's up to you to choose your own sleeping arrangements. That aside, a lot of the expense will be petrol of course. Some of the day trips are likely to be costly. You could spend as much as you like at the Monte Carlo casinos, for example. When you confirm your registration, we do also ask to you make a £50 donation (per car) to RoSPA via the following link: http://justgiving.com/tripeuropa. As this is just a group of friends going on a trip, however, there will be absolutely no charge for the running, organisation or administration of the trip. We're all in this for the fun of it. (Compare this with the other drives and rallies which cost hundreds or even thousands of pounds.) How many cars can take part? We'd like 10 cars to come. Go on, This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it before you miss out. How long will it take? The main route is 8 days, plus a day either side getting there and back. Of course, you may be tempted to stay on in Spain for La Tomatina afterwards. When are you going? We'll meet in Calais on the evening of Tuesday, 23rd August, getting the ferry back from on Wednesday, 31st. Can I come for part of the trip?Yes, though we'd like you to come for the whole adventure. That said, we understand people have other commitments and we're hoping to arrange the route so it's fairly straightforward to come for just the first or second halves. |
